King’s Crown Block

FINISHED BLOCK SIZE: 8″ x 8″
Flying Geese units surround a 4″ square to form a King’s Crown block. Other than the center square, you can use 2½”-wide precut strips to make most of the block.
Instructions:
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:
Read through entire pattern before beginning project. Use ¼” seam allowances with fabric right sides together. Pressing arrows are included with illustrations. Basic quiltmaking supplies are assumed. We call for exact amount of fabric needed; you may want to begin with a little more for insurance.
FABRIC:
Fabric A: (1) 4½” x 24½” piece white fabric
Fabric B: (1) 2½” x 18″ piece purple fabric
Fabric C: (1) 2½” x 10″ piece blue fabric
CUTTING:
From Fabric A, cut:
• (1) 4½” x 4½” square
• (8) 2½” x 2½” squares
From Fabric B, cut:
• (4) 2½” x 4½” rectangles
From Fabric C, cut:
• (4) 2½” x 2½” squares

Block Assembly:
Referring to Diagram 1, draw a diagonal line on wrong sides of (2) Fabric A 2½” squares. Place 1 square atop one end of Fabric B rectangle. Stitch along drawn line. Trim ¼” from sewn line and press open. Repeat process for opposite side of rectangle to make (1) Flying Geese Unit. Make 4.

Paying attention to orientation, lay out pieces as shown in Diagram 2. Sew in rows. Sew rows together to complete King’s Crown Block.
