Classic Quilts

Castaway Quilt Beauty

Through the centuries, quilts have been made by hand and treasured. Unlike today, fabric was not as plentiful, and resourceful quilters used any fabric they could find. Worn garments, flour sacks, and any scrap would work. They pieced until they were out of a fabric and then found something else to match it as closely as possible. The batting was usually hand-carded from fresh cotton bolls. It was truly a labor of love.

Here at Quilt Street, we will feature the history and making of antique quilts. Many will be included as projects you can replicate, and others will be reproduced in todays’ fabrics.

We will introduce you to some amazing antiques dealers who specialize in antique and vintage quilts and textiles. They are great resources for finding that special piece you may be looking for to add to you collection.

Family quilts and the stories of their makers are intriguing. We have many journeys to share with you. We want to hear your stories about your family quilts, too. Your involvement will make this even more exciting.

Museums are opening their doors to us to write about their curated collections. As we review quilts through the ages, we can see that while quilting was once a necessity, it became an art form. Loving quilts is loving fabric.
