Kaffe Fassett Quilts in Wales Exhibit

Kaffe Fassett Quilt

Internationally renowned textile designer Kaffe Fassett needs no introduction for most quilters, who have come to love his vibrant and brightly colored fabrics and quilt patterns. His fans in the U.K. and those who have plans to travel there will be thrilled to learn that seven new quilts from his latest book, Quilts in Wales, are on display in the Colour with Kaffe: a textile exhibition at Powis Castle in Wales through early September 2023.

Featuring some of the artist’s most-loved pieces and new ones inspired by the castle itself, the exhibition features patchwork quilts, knitted shawls and throws, needlepoint cushions, carpets, and furniture in the State Rooms and in the Gateway Room.

Powis Castle was built in the 13th century as a fortress in Welshpool and was remodeled and embellished over more than 400 years. Speaking about the medieval castle from which he took inspiration for some of his new patterns, Kaffe Fassett said: “Powis is a jewel box in a red sandstone casing. For a man who loves ornate overkill, this place was just the right setting for our newest collection of quilts.”

Powis Castle is open daily from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. For more event information, visit nationaltrust.org.uk.
